To meet the needs of next generation devices, ROHM develops analog and digital technologies to design innovative ICs such as MSDL serial transmission transceivers/transmitters for mobile phones featuring low power consumption and low EMI; voice synthesis ICs that provide high fidelity, CD-quality voice guidance functionality; sound source ICs that utilize ADPCM compression technology; and AIE (Adaptive Image Enhancer) video processing IC that adjusts the gradation of only specific (dark) areas of images in real time based on ambient light improving visibility.

 

EEPROMSEEPROMS

A serial EEPROM (Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) is non-volatile memory that can be overwritten in units of bytes and is used for data storage.

ROHM's high reliability serial EEPROMs are available in a variety of bus interfaces (Microwire, I2C, SPI), operating voltages (1.8V to 5.5V, 2.5V to 5.5V) and package types making them ideal for battery powered devices. The entire series utilizes unique, double cell construction to improve reliability.

 

Clock GeneratorsHigh-performance and 3ch Programmable Clock Generators

ROHM’s highly efficient clock generator series can generate the clocks used with AV equipment (digital cameras and DVD recorders) including the clock synchronized with the input clock. Integrating the entire clock system into a single chip simplifies and increases board space.

The 3ch programmable clock generator series integrates a 3ch PLL. The frequency of each PLL can be set via serial interface control making it compatible with a wide range of digital applications. Sudden frequency changes are handled via rewriting through the register, and the IC is suitable for sets with different frequencies resulting in efficient parts management and shorter development time.

Voltage Detector ICsVoltage Detector ICs

ROHM’s voltage detector ICs are reset ICs with highly accurate detection voltage (±1%), low current consumption, small thin packages and a wide voltage detection range. They are used for applications with microcontrollers, CPUs, DSPs and other controllers.

Both CMOS and open drain output are available. A standard SSOP package is offered that is pin- and function-compatible making it ideal as a replacement in existing systems. Thin, compact packages are also available – optimized for implementation in small spaces (e.g. near microcontrollers).

LED / LCD DriversLED / LCD Drivers

ROHM LED and LCD drivers are used for color LCD backlighting in mobile phones, MP3 players and more. Our lineup includes drivers with auto luminous control and low power consumption, drivers with built-in LDO for compact devices, drivers with RGB automatic illuminations, which reduces soft load, and drivers for flash. The wide lineup allows you to choose the ideal LED driver for your set.

Our STN LCD drivers are compatible with a wide variety of mobile phone LCD panels, ranging from sub-display monochrome LCDs to main full-color LCD panels. High image quality is ensured due to the built-in auto-contrast function and high precision reference power supply. Step-up voltage circuit and capacitors required for a variety of amps are integrated for more compact, power-saving designs.

We also have large panel LCD drivers for driving various LCD panels for PC monitors, laptops and TVs. These drivers feature RSDS and mini-LVDS for low power consumption and low EMI amplitude differential communications. Products are available in a range of gray scales (6bit to 8bit), outputs (384 and up), and channels.

ROHM’s sensor IC lineup includes Hall ICs, ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) ICs, small, high accuracy temperature sensor ICs, and capacitive sensor control ICs.

Our Hall ICs for magnetic switches integrate a highly sensitive Hall element that open or close switches upon detection of a magnetic field without physical contact–increasing reliability.

Our ALS ICs detect a wide range of illumination from darkness to sunlight. The ICs output illumination data to adjust the brightness of the LCD display. The ICs also reduce power consumption and improve visibility by controlling the brightness of the LCD display and the keypad backlight.

Our temperature sensor ICs integrate a temperature detection element, constant current circuit, and high-accuracy reference voltage source in a single chip–eliminating the need for troublesome circuit design.

Video and Imaging ICsVideo and Imaging ICs

ROHM carries a variety of video and imaging ICs from adaptive image enhancers and digital video encoders to LCD timing control ICs.

We have HDMI switches and buffers that support 1080P Full HD and Deep Color for multimedia monitors and flat panel TVs.

Our video switch ICs are ideal for a variety of applications in addition to switching input signals in TVs and monitors such as OSDs (On Screen Displays) that superimpose text and other images.

Our digital video encoder ICs enable images to be viewed on a TV monitor, and a digital filter is built-in for better image quality. Both multifunction and simple types are available for greater compatibility.

The series of digital sound processors for car audio uses the 32bit RISC-type ARM9 core and includes audio ADC/DAC and an asynchronous sampling rate converter on a single chip.
